This just in! Facebook Ruins Marriages!

MSN had an article about "unfriending your spouse" from Facebook. Because it's ruining marriages. By taking all the mystery out of the relationship, creating jealousy between lovers....seriously, I *know* my generation is fucked, but this is beyond the beyonds.

First of all, that these people let these social networking sites create a problem is just retarded. If it's that big a deal, then just delete your account, right? But the real issue here is that we have access to all these sites to update our status, and sign friends' walls and tag their photos. I don't even have a myspace, anymore. When I had one for a minute, I talked to most of the people on it more either through text or on the phone or in person than I did on the site.

These sites can be fun, but when they become a priority, that's scary. What's wrong with people that they are unable to govern themselves and take a step back to look at the big picture to figure out that they aren't spending enough time in reality? Has gluttony extended to *every* aspect of our lives? Have we descended to the point where we can't even monitor our actions?

I suppose there is no "next", because if our society has sunk to the level that we are unable to tear our collectively fat asses away from the computer screen long enough to ensure that our mate is satisfied, happy or taken care of, then there is no hope, is there? That's what I mean by gluttony. If everything in moderation, yet facebook members are unable to moderate, then gluttony of time spent on said site.

Can I have an island to myself, and live without the drawback of stupid people in my life? I don't even want to be associated with my society...I'd hate to be considered common....nevermind that I am posting this blog online.

Rant for a Wednesday Morning

And it should be a good one! I haven't blogged in a while.

First off....asshole drivers. Seriously, your turn signal is there for a reason. Didn't your mother ever tell you darting into traffic is a good way to cause an accident? Don't think that because you drive an SUV you own the road. The next time you cut me off for the turn lane I'm going to huck my full water bottle right through your open window and hope it concusses you so you can't ever drive again. Lay off the bleach, fuckwit, I think it's killing your brain cells. And P.S., if it's 8:05, your kids are already late for school....rushing isn't going to get them there before the last bell rang at 7:45.

Ok, now that that's off my chest, onto more important matters....like the California budget crisis and our "beloved" Governator. I'm kind of confused. Can someone please esplain to me how cutting more jobs in California is going to save money? I was listening to NPR this morning, and there was an update on this issue. Arnold proposed cutting another 2,000 jobs, which would make for the 3rd layoff *this year*. The head of some department being reviewed brought up a point that most of the jobs being cut are currently vacant, but of those that aren't, cutting the jobs would render the department understaffed, which would make it necessary for other employees to work overtime. If overtime pay is time and a half...then how is that department saving money? That just doesn't make sense in my feeble little mind. You know what also doesn't make sense? CUTTING more jobs in an economy that's already suffering! Seriously, if the problem is consumer spending statistics dropping because people are being laid off, therefore seriously limiting their net disposable income....then why would you limit MORE net disposable income, futher hindering consumer spending?

Look, I paid a modicum of attention in Economics. I understand that linear logic has little to do with re-structuring a hurting economy, and everyone knows I don't do numbers, BUT! if, logically, you are looking at trying to stimulate an economy, not by saving money, but by promoting spending, then it just goes in the opposite direction of sense that budget cuts would be applied to jobs wherein limiting the income a family has ultimately prevents them from consumer spending. That logic just flawed.

My proposal is to cut back political spending. Focus on the areas that need the money most and instead of cut jobs, maybe create jobs for that field and start a new kind of PWP. Stop giving bonuses to officials, limit the amount of money they have in their discretionary accounts, or do away with them altogether. If these delegates are *truly* concerned with the budget problem, then, they, as our elected representatives should be doing WHATEVER is in their power to get the ball rolling in the direction of change. I know the governor gets a large salary. I know his officials and representatives probably do too. Why is that ok that their lifestyle doesn't change when millions of families are hurting financially? I know, I know.....I'm dangerously close to touting socialist propoganda, but seriously! Why should they still be allowed to recieve millions per year to oversee this issue, when the solution lies in the very fact that they are likely taking more than is necessary to do their job?

Most people think this kind of change has to start at the bottom, but I disagree. I say we start at the top. Californians need to demand an accounting of just how much money goes through our governor's office every month. As an ellected rep, he should have to answer to us, honestly and account for his spending. Maybe then we could start cutting the excess and start re-allocating the monies in a wiser, more cost efficient way:

1. Cut representative salary
2. Pool all discretionary expenditures back into the deficit
3. Possibly keep taxes where they are until that defecit has lessened
4. Create more jobs in places most needed, like schools (from elementary to colleges), civic programs and organisations that are civically minded - after school or arts and music programs, better healthcare, homeless shelters and soup kitchens.
5. Make welfare regulations far more stringent than they are.
6. Have higher education become more accessible.

These are all things that seem to be overlooked because they are deemed expendable. But they aren't. These areas are completely nessecary. How else would our government expect to survive any more length of time unless we educate the upcoming generation. The sad part is, these kids are the future...these kids who throw fits in stores, hit their parents, have the nerve to call CPS on them, get pregnant at 12, run around doing drugs before they're out of elementary school, don't read because they're so over stimulated by video games, have problems with obesity and childhood diabetes....these kids are who we hand all of our hard work down to. Granted, the parents are the ones who probably need re-education...but the point is we should want to make this next generation better rather than perpetuate the bullshit my current generation is all about.

In conclusion to this, Mr. Governor, if you were REALLY all that concerned about our economic status, than maybe you need to start looking a little closer to home to solve the problem.

And lastly, stupidity. I know...you've heard it before, and no, I STILL haven't found a way to make it painful, but one can hope.

I'm just appalled and flabbergasted at how absolutely asinine people can be. Ever read fmylife.com? You should if you want to feel better about your level of intelligence. Not that I need the reassurance, because if there is one thing I'm arrogant about, it's the level of knowledge I possess. And why shouldn't I? I have worked my ass off to attain it. I digress.

I was reading it this morning. Again, I am simply astounded at the mediocrity of our society. We celebrate drama, encourage the common and mundane. It's almost as if apathy is slowly overtaking the mind, and the focus on being the best, doing your best or even taking any interest in anything becomes a negative. I simply don't understand it. How can this generation be so content to watch reality tv, yet loathe going outside and living their own life? When did indulging in any kind of excess become the norm and people who choose not to partake in this exhorbitance become boring? It's almost like the more dimwitted the collective mind has become, the more stimulants needed to maintain a false high. We are fostering a society of zombies! How sad that a classic novel or a Best Seller will be undersold by a celebrity gossip rag or tabloid. It's unfathomable that more attention is paid to the shell rather than filling it with anything of substance. Again, I digress.

So, this website...is a place for people to post their blunders, silly things that have happened to them during the day, or embarrassing bloopers that cause them shame. WHY anyone would willingly post something like that is beyond me. If I fuck up, I don't want people KNOWING about it, for the love of God! And I really couldn't tell you what I find to be more ridiculous, the fact that people actually *do* these things they post, or the fact that they post them. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I suggest you google to find the site, and read a few. Reading through these blog-lettes will indeed affirm what I have been saying for years: Common sense isn't so common anymore.

Thanks for reading, have a happy Wednesday

The Battle of the Wills!

There are 5 atorneys in my building and including their staff, probably a total of maybe 15 people. The parking lot, while not big, is certainly large enough to accomodate all of us. Nevertheless, there is this *one* spot that is fought over. It is THE spot of all spots. The front row, left corner spot is apparently the Golden Grail of parking spots in our lot. Don't ask me why. I suppose it could make sense to say that because my mom/boss started parking there out of convenience, as she walks around the left side of the building to the back entrance in order to take the inside stairs, rather than the front stairway (which are rather dangerous and narrow...and let's face it, my mom is a klutz), that two other attorneys in our building *had* to have the same spot. Regardless of the fact that the entrace to their offices are only accessible through the front entrance....which means they have no choice but to walk back over to the front of the building. So instead of parking in the middle of the front row, which would make the walk to the front entrance far more convenient, they choose to park all the way over to the left.

We (as an office) are baffled as to why either of the attorneys desire to park here, given that there is absolutely nothing special or great about this spot....other than, of course, the fact that my mom likes parking there because she uses a difference entrance. I know better than to think that the other 2 attorneys aren't petty enough to want something just because another person has it...

Really, who says adults are more mature?

Huntin' Ghosts!

Ever watch Chost Hunters on SciFi? I freakin' looooove this show. Nothing major really ever happens, so it's totally a show where you let your mind wander and imagine all kinds of creepy supernatural things happening all around the cast and crew. Actually, more interesting than the *paranormal* aspect of the show are the places that GH investigates, simply because they tend to be older, more established places. Places of some historical significance...because history equals ghosts, supposedly. Or logically, I suppose. Either way, watching the show has led to some research on the locations, which has led to interst in dereliction and urban decay....and I'm not tlaking make-up here.

How cool would it be to be paid to go poke around old buildings, and take photos, or sit around with tape recorders and talk to myself? I do it anyway, talk to myself, so why should I not get paid for it? I want to hunt ghosts. Officially. That's my new goal, to hunt for something supernatural. I don't care if I get paid for it, or not, but I want to be able to have a story that I can tell like..."Did I ever tell you about that one time that I spent the night in that old asylum?"...seriously.

I'm going to do it, and then write about it. Stay tuned :p

His Holyness, the 14th Dalai Lama

St. Patrick's Day found me at the Rancho Cultural Centre, with Alexis, for a documentary on the Dalai Lama. I'm slightly emberassed to admit that I didn't know much about him before this film. I knew the basics, and that was really all.

The interesting thing about the Dalai Lama is that he lives a life of tact rather than practising being tactful in certain situations. He preaches religious and social tolerance, love and peace, pacifism and ecological consciousness.

Can you just imagine if the world started practising Buddhism and incorporated the teachings in their everyday life?

I'm actually very fascintaed by this idea.

Recently

My life has been pretty busy. I'm glad for it, but I started doing some things I wouldn't normally do, in the name of being newly free and single (again). It has resulted in my not feeling so hot this week. So I learned my lesson. No more partying Sunday nights.

Some of my friends went to Sedona this weekend, and I wonder if they had fun.

That's really it, I'm sorta too pooped to write anything of major interest.

Freecycling

I belong to this web "group" called Freecyclers. It's based off that old addage "One man's junk is another man's treasure". It also serves to recycle as much as possible, instead of just throwing away what you don't need or want anymore, since the issue of recycle, reduce, re-use is all the rage, and rightly so. I'm definitely not opposed to the concept of this site. It totally serves to help those people who may not be able to go out and buy the things they need. . .

The key word in that last sentence being "need". Not want. With this, like most things in my life that involve people (i.e. my job, life in general) I find the "want" part irritating.

So, the general rules of this site are that you are supposed to offer something, supposedly of modest value, before you start listing the things you would like to have.

The part of this that irritates me is that people, like with everything else that allows them to obtain things for free, get greedy with it. The email that sparked this blog went something along the lines of: "We are still looking for twin beds, bunk beds, washer/dryer, refrigerator, end tables, dvd players, entertainment centers...etc." Which basically means that the person or people who posted this email decided to have the whole rest of the Freecycle group outfit their entire house. I mean, really. It's one thing to inquire about taking something off another person's hands, especially if it's sitting collecting dust, and put it to good use. However, this email said "We are STILL..." as in, "this isn't the first time we have asked the freecycle community for these things, yet no one has come through and given us a fully outfitted house, yet!?!" It's so demanding, as if to remind the rest of the group that they are entitled to more than the bare necessities. Which they aren't. And obviously, if no one has offered to let these people have any of these items, it means that no one has them to give. So maybe you should stop demanding. It is completely possible to word these requests so that they sound grateful and hopeful, rather than rude and entitled. These people have yet to learn the art of tact, apparently.

The only other emails like this that really irkitate me more are the ones who get all kinds of picky about what they're looking for. For instance, I read an email requesting baby items, specifiying that these items are for a baby girl. The asker mentioned a certain brand of clothes she liked. They were not an inexpensive brand, by any means, either. Which made me think that maybe beggars really can be choosers. But then again, she never posted a "RECEIVED" email, so maybe everyone just ignored her.

Caterwalling!

My room is on the side of the house. My front window faces the street and the window on the side lookes into the neightbor's front lawn. Right next to my side window is a smallish plot of bare dirt, somewhat hidden behind the landscaping. The landscaping in front of the house hides my front window and sort of makes a natural fence and hides most of the front of the house, actually.

Anyway, for the past, few nights, there has been a cat fight, literally, right outside the side window, in the little side yard. The cats must either be neighborhood strays or something, because the outdoor pets usually stay closer to the houses where they live. Our next door neighbors don't have an outdoor cat, as far as I'm aware. So, I'm going to assume that this is a stray or ferral cat. I'm also going to assume that this cat either has kittens it has been protecting, or the cat just REALLY likes this particular plot of unadorned earth.

Have you ever heard an actual cat fight? It's hilarious, in a very "I feel bad that I'm laughing, but I REALLY can't help it" sort of way.

I was laying bed around 3 a.m., listening to these very gutteral growls and hisses, imagining fur flying, kitties rolling around in a cloud of dust, like you would see in a cartoon; and then two kitties emerge with black and blue eyes, cuts and scrapes, with those deeper, more serious wounds already wrapped in that white doctor's tape. I could only hear the fwap-fwap-fwap-fwap of paws machine-gun fire beating the crap out of whatever other cat dared to show his or her tail into the first cat's territory.

This scenario has woken me up three or 4 nights in a row. I want to see if I can get a look at which two cats are fighting.

A few little nuggets of nothingness and unimportance.

Um, so I may have a slight addiction to gossip. Ok, so I maybe like gossip a whole freakin' lot. Sue me, I'm a chick.

Lately my family has been having "issues" with my baby sister. I won't go into detail on here, number one because it's not for me to talk about it in this very public forum, and number two, because it's none of anyone's business. Suffice it to say the people who need to know are in the know (ok, I would totally tell you, but you can't say you heard it from me). Needless to say, the shit has hitteth the fan. In a whole bunch of ways. I feel bad for sister because she is confused and trying to find her spot in the world. I remember that age, so I empathize with her. I also remember my mom at that age, so from an adult perspective, I am able to look at the situation and see both sides. This probably doesn't make any sense, reader, but that's because you don't know the whole story.

Let's just leave it with, sister bit off more than she could chew with this newest incident. I hope for her sake, she learns from this, and quickly. Otherwise her teenage years are going to be total hell for her.

OK, onto why I really logged on today. Nadya Suleman. Yup, mother of octuplets. The one who already had 6 kids. And no job. And no baby-daddy. So let's count, that makes, what? 14 kids? 14 kids......uh huh.....does anyone else see the utter stupidity of this situation?

Why on EARTH would you add 8 more kids to the mix when you are barely able to take care of the 6 you already have?!?

Look, I'm all for people doing whatever the eff they please, but Christ on a crutch! Isn't the world over populated enough without adding 8 more mouths to feed into the welfare line? Those damn kids aren't even out of the hospital yet, and already California tax payers are going to have to foot the bill for the estimated $1.3 million dollars that will likely not be covered by Suleman, as she has no job, and no insurance.

Is anyone else incensed over this utter bullshit? Because you totally should be!

Let's review, shall we?

Suleman, already of a mother of 6, had been living on disability beneftis for a decade, received a total of $165,000, $100,000 of which went to IVF treatment, allowing her to conceive and birth the first set of 6, 3 of whom are receiving an estimated $2,400/mo in social security disability. Then she has another set of 8, all the while still living off of her disability, and social security disability for the 3 youngest of her first 6 kids. The octuplets were premature, which means a possible 12 week stay in the neo-natal ICU and could cost tax payers another $1.3 million, on top of th e$42 billion state-wide defecit.

SERIOUSLY??!?!?!?!?! WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK, PEOPLE?!?!?

Aren't there regulations on how many embrios a woman can have implanted before ethics are called into question?

A certain Charles Murray wrote, in a letter to Los Angeles Daily New, "It's my opinion that a woman's right to reproduce should be limited to a number which the parents can pay for." Yeah, it's not just your opinion, dude. Trust me, I hear you.

I also agree with KFI-AM talk show host Brian Suits that at this point, she is clearly unfit and the state needs to step in a take over the last 8 kids.

This woman is something else. I'm appalled that this situation could have ever been concieved, let alone actually happen.

Oh, and one more little tidbit.....can someone please explain to me, how a mother of 14, will be able to return to school to complete her masters degree, while supporting her kids on student loans? Because she swears that the assistance she is receiving now isn't welfare.

Fucking morons.....

More good stuff...

Two newer things about 2009 that put a huge smile on my face.

Right before Christmas, my Tennis Ball Face passed away. She was a mean little shit, but she was my mean little shit. Everyone else knew her as Pebbles. She was an 8-year-old Cairn Terrier. I loved her to bits. She had a mass on her ovaries that would have left her incontinent had it been removed, so Dave opted to just put her down, instead. There would have been no way of knowing if she would have been in paid at all, after the surgery, had he opted to keep her alive. As much as I hate putting animals to sleep for convenience sake, I really hate the thought of any innocent living thing in pain for no reason. Anyway, that's not the smiley part.

About 3 weeks ago, Dave's son-in-law, Charley called Dave to offer him a pound puppy rescue. Someone brought 2 baby Jack Russell Terriers into the shelter. They had found them in a dumpster. So Dave adopted the little man. His name is Oliver, and he has to be about the cutest thing I have seen lately. He's less than 18 ounces, and fits in one hand. He's got great colouring, is very smart and immensely cuddly. I fell in love with his waggly little tail 2.5 seconds after smelling his puppy breath. I have always wanted a Jack Russell, but never got one because of all the work they take. So this is the perfect compromise. I get to borrow Ollie to take to dog beach, and on camping trips to Havasu, but I don't actually have to raise him. Muahahahaha! I know, I'm terrible. But we have Marley and Frank, so a third pupperella is definitely not an option. Although, had my mom put her foot down and said "No", I would have made a third puppy work. He's way to cute to entrust to another family that might not give him the love and attention he needs, especially after having been dumped. (In my opinion, that person should be dumped into a dumpster and left for dead) But, he got my mom and Dave, who, as any who know Little Man know, is in VERY good hands. He'll be wicked spoiled before he's a year.

A very welcome addition to the family, I think. He doesn't take Pebbles' place, by any means, but it's a nice distraction. Plus, she's in a better place now.

Saving the best for last, are Kaysi, Zach and Jayden. These 3 wonderful people are my bestie Forrest's extended family. He is so blessed to have them, they are wonderful.

I went with Foster to AZ last weekend, to cheer him on as he *ahem* "ran" the Rock and Roll AZ marathon. (Just kidding, love you =p) He stays with Kaysi when he goes out to AZ. So, it stood to reason that we would stay with her, for the long weekend. I had met Kaysi before, almost a full year ago, and was just impressed by how well they get along, and how personable she is. So I wasn't surprised that was welcoming and hospitable. I felt right at home in her place, I was comfortable and cozy, which is the best when you go to visit people. I thouroughly enjoyed staying with her and getting to know her better.

It's rare that we find people in this day and age who have such a niceness about them that isn't forced. I can't wait to see them again! Good luck, Kaysi, if you decide to train for the Boston! (wrap your toes!!!! =X)

I was even inspired to start my own training and work my way up to maybe even run a marathon. Maybe =)

Game Night Success!

My roommate and I had an idea while walking down the toy and games aisle in Target. Why not have a game night, like we used to when we were kids? I agreed with her, and after buiying games for Christmas presents, decided to have a monthly game night. The idea would be to get together one Saturday night a month and play games, eat, drink and be merry.

TOTAL success! I sent out emails to 35 or so people to bring their favorite game, drink and snack. We had Wii boxing and bowling tournaments in the den, an eight-player round of Rummikub in th edining room, and Cranium and Sequence going on in the living room. Everyone else kind of sat around eating, watching the games, or watching the UCF match upstairs in the TV room.

We had a blast! My cousin's birthday is today, the 26th, which sucks because it's a Monday, and no one can really go out to play on a school night. So I got a cake, and we sang Happy Birthday to her. The look on her face when she realized that the cake and the 28 people singing were to celebrate her birthday was priceless. She got all red and smiled from ear to ear. I absolutely adore her. If anyone had a sweeter, more un-assuming heart, I would love to meet them. She's such a doll.

I think this was a fantastic idea. Hi-5 to Roommie for the great idea!

Wii so have a problem!

Roommate got Wii for Christmas. Actually it was a combined gift for the house from Rommate's mother. She also bought us Mario Cart and a sports game. The sports game has the boxing match thinger on it, you know the one the boys decided to start playing around 10:30 last Sunday night. I had to threaten to take the power chord again last night if they tried another round that late.

I already knew how possible it was to completely demolish a living room, whilst playing a regular round of video games on a standard remote controlled consolse, so given that Wii is chordless and far more active...I figured we might have to move all the breakables and the furniture. But, I figured that if we were careful, the wreckage would likely be held to a minimum. That's also why we instated the rule about wearing your wrist strap during ANY game. No matter what game is being played, one MUST wear the lanyard, MUST, MUST, MUST!

Anyway, I was doing my Wii fitness rounds, to determine how ancient I am, by Wii standards, and I refused to weigh in at the same age I had previously been labeled, so I totally put some extra *oomph* into it this time....and almost took out the ceiling fan, television screen and lamp.

So maybe the ceiling fan should be moved, next.

A new year, a new me.

Christmas was a disaster. At least the part that happened in New York. For any that may be reading, I went to visit someone I cared very deeply about, and it turned out to be the best/worst thing. At least now I know, instead of wondering. I can accept that things turn out the way they do for a reason. I'm not bitter, nor do I harbour any ill feelings. My only wish would be that this person matures and grows into someone more understanding of others, especially given the immediate circumstances. I hope he finds humility and grace, as well.

The part of my holidays spent here at home with loved ones was fun. I adore my people and it's nice to know they adore me back.

Ok, so onto the resolutions. I didn't resolve to lose weight/watch less tv/abstain from Starbucks or anything like that. God knows none of you want me abstaining from Starbucks :p
Nope, I resolve to be kinder to people. More patient. I don't plan on sugar coating any truths I might need to expound, I just mean that I will be kind for the sake of being kind. Being in a different place made me appreciate the value of a smile from a stranger, or having someone I have never seen before offer me directions because I looked a little lost. I don't see that here, in the land of bright smiles and brand names. It's almost as if we merely cohabit the same towns and cities here, but no one really truly cares if the rest of the world disappears as long as their cell phones work. Maybe that went a little far, but still.

This year I vow to smile at strangers more often. To say "please" and "thank you" more than I need to. I resolve to open doors for stangers and not get irritated when 20 people walk in the open doorway without so much as a glance in my direction. I will do my best to promise not to interrupt when someone is talking. I will hold my tongue when someone says something that is blatantly wrong, yet still not worth arguing over.

Changing one's primary characteristics is a hard task. I'm a determined person. If you all will have patience with me, you just might be surprised at the new me :)
