What is WRONG with people, anymore?

A young man from Nebraska was hit and killed in a traffic collision.

This incident happened October 24, 2008. A 19-year-old kid riding his bike on the sidewalk down a street not too far from my office was hit by some border jumper in a hoopty and killed. The woman, who was in the car with young female, quite possibly her daughter, got out of the car, looked at the kid she had just hit, got back in her car and drove off. Never bothered to call an ambulance or anything. The news report described the woman as a mid-to-late 20's Latina. Hence why I believe she was a border jumper. Probably had no insurance on top of being an illegal immigrant. This article has the potential for countless rants, the most significant of which being immigration control, goodwill, decency and humanity being an ever decreasing occurance and poor parenting skills.

This woman got OUT of her car and LOOKED at the poor kid she hit, and gets back in her car and drives off?!?!? Really?????? Wouldn't one assume that conscience would prick her to at least call someone? Apparently not, because another complete strange, presumably the witness to this event called the ambulance. Kudos to the faceless angel who had the decency to step in and help out. As far as I know, officials have yet to find this woman, but I hope they slap her murder 2 when they do find her. Or better yet, hit HER with her own car and leave her for dead.

I went to the Costa Mesa swap meet Sunday to shop for certain Christmas gifts. (Shut it, it's not ghetto, it's thrifty) And while I know that most people are so self-absorbed to the point of selfishness, I'm still flabbergasted every time someone blatantly displays their utter lack of concern for anything or anyone around them. I am not an overtly mean or vindictive person by nature, but I am by no means patient, either. I have a limit to the crap I will deal with from complete strangers, and believe me, for how impatient I am normally, I have to say it's actually quite a bit. I was walking down an aisle, headed to the trash can and this little boy, maybe 5 years old gets right in front of me. He's walking backward talking to his mom, or whoever, so he doesn't see that he is in my way, but the 10 pounds of trash stuffed into a 5 pound sack did. At no time in the complete 15 ish seconds he was standing in my way did she tell the kid to watch where he was going, apologize for him having walked directly in front of me, etc. Nothing. He eventually moved slightly to my left and I was able to continue my way to the trash can, only slightly brushing against him, because he hadn't quite moved completely out of my path to the trash.

I didn't push the kid down, I just didn't wait for him to move out of my way altogether. I know, he's a kid, it's not his fault that his mom or whoever he was with didn't bother to teach him any manners, but still. If she isn't going to teach him to watch where he's walking, then she can pick him up when someone less nice than me knocks him to the ground.

Anyway, I get about 10 feet away and the lady says "um...watch where you're going!?" I turn around and tell her to watch where her kid is going. She then calls me a fat ass. Now, look, I realize I'm not skin and bones. I have some meat to me. I'm by no means a fat ass, and considering that she looked like 10 lbs of meat in a 5lb sack, she was the pot calling the kettle black. I took less offense to her calling me a name than I did to her total lack of parenting skills when it came down to teaching the boy a lesson about watching out for others. Had I my way, I would have grabbed the kids arm and shoved him into his mother, but, like I stated before, I'm not that mean.

Half the bullshit these kids get up to anymore is completely the fault of lazy parenting. I don't know when it became fashionable to have a kid, like you would own an accessory to your outfit, but having a kid and not training it, teaching it plain old fashioned manners and common courtesy, sparing the rod and spoiling your child, it's just a shame! I despair that when and if I ever have children, their good breeding will be an anomoly.

Well good morning to too, TOO!

Grumpiness is contagious.

Or maybe it's a general lack of respect for other people/things around you.

Either way, I'm growing tired of boys and their smells, noise and mess.

And the clown mask HAS to go. I swear I'm hiding that in the attic until next Halloween.

P.S. My pumpkins look fantastical next to our "fireplace".

Obama for President!

Obama won. Obviously. Unless you have been living under a rock, you should already know this. I'm honestly not surprised. Dub-ya screwed up policy and the economy so badly, there was no way Republicans would have won. I know Republicans point the finger at Clinton stating that we had a downward slope under his leadership, but then again, wasn't he following, albeit somewhat loosely, under Daddy Bush's policy? Even I know that, and I don't really follow politics all that closely. Granted there is a huge difference between Republican and Democrat standing, but in the end, who is really to blame for all the screw ups? Poor leadership? Even poorer advisory boards? Money? Does it matter? I suppose to some it does.

I personally don't care who does the job, as long as they do it right. Given that our treasurey is billions of dollars in the negative, health insurance is so expensive that people can't afford to buy it and feed their families, the foreclosure rate on homes is historically at it's highest and the unemployment rate is the highest it (had) been since the 80's, I would have to say our former fearless leader was NOT up to the task at hand. Granted, Dub-ya managed to avoid another Depression, but just barely. However, if that's the best thing you can say about your term in office, you might be doing something wrong. Hopefully Barack's name will be remembered the same way Roosevelt's was: as a man with the plan that saved our nation's ass (World Wars not withstanding.)

To any and all who might be pissed that Obama won: let him have a go at being our President. It can't be any worse than the last 8 years.

51 days left!

I met a guy in March. He's pretty amazing. Intelligent, sarcastic, witty, a pain in the balls. I adore him. The problem is that he lives in New York and I live in Southern California. How convenient. Anyway, since he travels for work, he came to L.A. for about 2 months. We hadn't seen each other since we met. It was nice to get to spend time with him, finally. I figured out that I'm actually pretty into him. He treats me better than anyone I have ever been with. I'm going to visit him in New York for Christmas. Meet the family, get to know his friends and roommates. Scope out the area.

I also decided I wil most likely end up moving out to Syracuse. For him. I wanted to move out of California altogether anyway. Seattle was my first choice, but there is no Spike in Seattle.

I am still really skeptical about moving for someone, however the moving part isn't for anyone but me. The destination changed because of him. And I won't be moving for about another 18 months, so I will have time to see how things work out. Although, quite frankly, I can't see my life without him.

And so my countdown begins. I have 51 days left until I get on a plane and head east.
